Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network |
Holli Cook is one of our downstate monitors. Her site is Forest Park in Peoria County. She is a nice, solid monitor. She goes out consistently every summer, almost always doing more than the required 6 times, submits her data promptly and concisely, and does this with little to no support from us, due to our low presence in that part of the state. We are giving her this award to thank her for her persistence and dedication to the IBMN.
Nanette Kalscheur really does her homework. Every year she goes out before the season begins and carefully marks her monitoring route at FermiLab. Nanette has monitored since 2001 (she actually started at Danada Forest Preserve before moving to Fermi), and is now providing valuable data from one of the region's premier prairie reconstruction projects.
Craig Stettner has monitored at Harper College since 2003. He always goes above and beyond the call of the requirements for monitorinbg- in 2006 he monitored 12 times. Craig has brought new people into the network, and is a real asset to the program. The IBMN is seeking to help keep butterflies from sliding into extinction. Recently, Craig has helped prevent a citizen science program from sliding into extinction when he took over the Dragonfly Monitoring Network. We thank Craig for all of his efforts.
Suzanne Turner monitors at Sauganash Prairie, which is one of the sites with a poor butterfly fauna. Despite the lack of variety there, she goes out every year, documenting what is there, and as importantly, what is not there. She also steps up and helps out at workshops every year, even though she has a long drive to get here in Elgin. Many of you were signed in by her today. She is the type of monitor who has helped to make our network as successful as it is.
Coco Venturin was a new monitor at Tolleson Ridges in Indiana in 2006. She was an especially adept rookie, recording species like black dash and hobomok skippers. Oh, yes, she also monitors Karner blues on that site. We recognize Coco for excellent obervational and recording skills, It's always rewarding to see a great new monitor combined with a great new site.
