Bob Williams- Gladstone Fen and Boger Fen, McHenry County
Bob Williams took over monitoring Gladstone Fen in 2003. That was not enough of a challenge for him, so he added Boger Fen, which is across the street, in 2004. The Gladstone route was originally set by Doug, but Bob had to coordinate with the site manager for Boger Fen to set up the route and continue to coordinate with him as restoration efforts fluctuated at this site. Both of these sites are important wetlands to monitor, and he does the job reliably, turning in a good data set on time each summer. He is the type of monitor we count on to keep the IBMN thriving, and we are pleased to give him this award to thank him for his efforts.
Julie Long - Ferson Creek Fen, Kane County
Julie Long is has been monitoring butterflies at Ferson Creek Fen for nearly 10 years now. She has produced an outstanding, continuous data set at a site that contains several important wetland species. Ferson Creek Fen is also under management, and Julie’s data set will be helpful in determining the effects that site management will have on the important butterfly species that live there. Because they have already proven to be amenable to statistical analysis, Julie’s data for the Eyed Brown will be helpful in addressing the health of this species at Ferson Creek Fen.
