IBMN Outdoor Field Experience 2008

Description: This year's outdoor field trip will be to Waterfall Glen in southern DuPage County, Saturday, July 12, at 10:00 AM. Waterfall Glen is home to the Pipevine Swallowtail, which is a beautiful dark swallowtail that flies in the savanna. We'll take a walk through both savanna and prairie where we hope to find some skippers. This is a unique site which is a real pleasure to visit. IBMN Director Doug Taron will lead the tour, and we always have some experienced monitors along as well. This is a great opportunity for newer members to get into the field with some pros. And it's a great chance for more advanced monitors to get together and have fun exploring an exciting site.
We will be going off the trail, so wear long pants. Also bring sun screen, mosquito repellent, and water. Usually some people bring a sack lunch also.

Date and time: Saturday, July 12, 10:00 AM. The tour will last about 3 hours.
Registration: Registration is required. Call Mel Manner at 847-464-4426 or e-mail her at ibmn@sbcglobal.net. Tell her your name, phone number and email address, and the names of anyone coming with you. She will email you or call you with a confirmation.
Directions: From Route 55: Travel south on Lemont Road. Pass the Hindu Temple. Turn east on Bluff Road (1st side street at the base of the hill past the temple). You've gone too far south if you cross the bridge over the DesPlaines River. The preserve entrance is at the end of Bluff Road. Meet at the chain-link gate. The gate will be open at 9:45 am. You will be directed where to park. The gate will be locked during our tour from 10 am to 1 pm. If you need to leave early, park outside the gate. Please be on time for the start of the tour.
Waterfall Glen is on the property of the Argonne National Laboratory. Here is a map of the area. Bluff Road runs through the laboratory property. We will come in at the southwest corner.
